Germaine Acogny

Dancer, choreographer

[This text has been translated electronically.] Raised in Dakar, Senegal, the dancer Germaine Acogny moved to France in the 1960s, where she studied ballet and modern dance. In close collaboration with the writer Léopold Sédar Senghor and the choreographer Maurice Béjart, she founded the dance school Mudra Afrique in 1977. After her return to Senegal, she also opened the Ècole des Sables in 1995, dedicated to traditional and contemporary African dance. Germaine Acogny has received several awards, including the L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and the Golden Lion of the Biennale Danza.
