Barbara Hannigan

Soprano, conductor

Soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan is considered an exemplary interpreter of contemporary music. In her career, she has already met renowned artists such as Kent Nagano, Sasha Waltz, Simon Rattle, Katie Mitchell, and Andris Nelsons. She has also performed with orchestras such as the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Munich Philharmonic. In collaboration with composers such as György Ligeti, Henri Dutilleux, and Salvatore Sciarrino, Hannigan has premiered over 85 works, most recently John Zorn's Split the Lark and Star Catcher in 2021 and In the Half Light by Zosha di Castri in 2022. She has also been supporting young, aspiring professional singers with her "Equilibrium" initiative since 2017. In 2022, she received the Officier des Arts et des Lettres and was named Artist of the Year by Gramophone magazine. Her most recent projects include the live video production of Francis Poulenc's »La Voix humaine«, created together with video artist Denis Guégin and premiered with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. In the 2022/23 season, she will conduct the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, and the Orchestre Chambre de Lausanne for the first time. She will also be touring as an Associate Artist with the London Symphony Orchestra.
