Julian Prégardien

Tenor

Julian Prégardien began his vocal training in the choirs of Limburg Cathedral Music. After studies in Freiburg and at the Aix-en-Provence Opera Festival Academy, he was an ensemble member of the Frankfurt Opera. He has made guest appearances at the Hamburg and Bavarian State Operas and at the Opéra Comique in Paris. In 2018 he made his debut at the Salzburg Festival and in 2019 as Tamino at the Staatsoper Berlin under Alondra de la Parra. Highlights of the 2021/22 season included concerts with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra under Klaus Mäkelä and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Sir John Eliot Gardiner. He also made his Carnegie Hall debut with Bach's St Matthew Passion, and in Raphaël Pichon's project »La vie du Christ«, Julian Prégardien took on the central role of the Evangelist. A particular focus of his artistic activities are recitals and chamber music projects: This season, he presented Franz Schubert's »Schwanengesang« with Martin Helmchen and »Die Schöne Müllerin« with Kristian Bezuidenhout, among others. Julian Prégardien is a professor of singing at the Munich University of Music and Theatre and artistic director of the Brentano Academy Aschaffenburg.
