15

Goal 15: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss

Born in Marbach, in his youth Claus-Peter Hutter already saw metre-high heaps of foam on the locks of the heavily polluted River Neckar. In the 1970s, in an effort to save the river, he helped to establish one of the first environmental action groups in Germany, and in 1990 developed the campaign »Natur ohne Grenzen« [nature without borders], which was launched in the Forum am Schlosspark in Ludwigsburg. He has remained true to this commitment and has meanwhile planned numerous environmental projects for conservation, environmental education and sustainable development all over the world. Today he is president of the environmental foundation NatureLife-International and head of the Baden-Württemberg Environmental Academy. His maxim is »conservation of nature with people, not against them«. This means that the cultural identities of the people there are taken into consideration, in the conservation of natural habitats in the various regions of the earth.
