The choreographer, dancer and director Sasha Waltz studied in Amsterdam and New York. Together with Jochen Sandig, she founded the company Sasha Waltz & Guests in 1993. Subsequently, they founded the Sophiensæle (1996) and the Radialsystem (2006) in Berlin. Sasha was a management member at Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz from 2000 to 2004. For the 2019/20 season, she took over the artistic directorship of the Staatsballett Berlin together with Johannes Öhman. Developing innovative, cross-disciplinary forms of performance and creation is an essential focus of her creative work. Currently, Waltz is also concentrating on consolidating collaborative processes such as the synchronous development of choreography and music. Equally pertinent is the transfer of dance knowledge and the use of dance as a medium of social and socio-political understanding. In 2021, she was appointed »Commandeur de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres« by the French Ministry of Culture.
