Chinese tenor Mingjie Lei was educated at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Lei celebrated his first successes in opera from 2015 to 2017 as a Young Artist at the Ryan Opera Centre of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and as a participant in the Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival. Also active in concert, the tenor won 3rd prize at the International Singing Competition Neue Stimmen in 2017 and the ARD Music Competition in 2018. In 2019, he excelled at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition in the song category. Mingjie Lei is a guest soloist at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Zurich Opera House and the Hamburg State Opera. Since 2018/19, the singer has been a permanent ensemble member of the Stuttgart State Opera.
