Martin Welzer started mixing and collecting records back in the mid-1980s. After several DJ battles, he made it to the finals of the German DMC Championship in 1991, and his first resident position as DJ Friction in a Stuttgart club followed in the same year. The local hip-hop scene was still in its early days when Friction produced the first demos by Massive Tönen and others in his home studio. Together with Max Herre and Philippe Kayser, he founded the band Freundeskreis, whose studio albums »Quadratur des Kreises« in 1997 and »Esperanto« in 1999 achieved gold status. He released his first three solo albums between 2000 and 2004. Countless remixes for The Jackson 5 Die Fantastischen Vier, Sportfreunde Stiller, Gentleman followed. His latest album, »Synesthesia«, produced entirely without sampling, also shows that Friction continuously expands his musical roots with new sounds.
